High protein shake recipes

You don’t have to be a bodybuilder to enjoy all the benefits protein has to offer.

Whether you are trying to lose weight, boost your metabolic health, or simply get a lean and toned body, protein should be part of your nutrition regimen. That's because protein is an essential macronutrient for building and maintaining a lean body void of excess body fat.

In fact, the word protein comes from a Greek word "Proteios," which means "of primary importance (1).

Protein is part of every cell. Your body uses protein to build and repair tissues such as nails, hair, muscles, skin, and bones.

More often than not, we rely on protein sources (animal meats, fish, nuts, and some grains) for our protein intake, but protein shakes can also be a great protein source.

This is true whether you prefer animal or plant-based protein.

Most times, protein shakes are low in calories and saturated fat something that's hard to come by eating steaks.

With the right mix, they can also be low carb—something protein from grains like rice always struggles with.

Not all, but some protein shakes also contain additional vitamins and minerals, possibly packing in more nutritional value in a single drink than 3 of your meals combined. All around, it's a very easy and convenient way to give your body what it needs.

Often times, their tastelessness makes them a little hard to swallow.

The secret to enjoying your protein shakes is to mix them with something that adds a strong flavor punch, like coffee, banana, chocolate, peanut butter or even papaya.

It's all about having the right tasty protein with flavorful ingredients something all of these five recipes truly nailed.

So much so, they even taste like dessert!

If you are tired of drinking the same boring, bland protein shake, give these mouth-watering recipes a try.

Here are five delicious high-protein shake recipes that taste like your favorite desserts.

This chocolate peanut butter protein shake is, in fact, a legit super green smoothie in disguise.

I don't know about you, but I love super green smoothies.

I love that I can take in a wide array of vitamins and minerals my body needs with the right blend of veggies and fruits.

However, one nutrient many green smoothies lacks is protein.

Adding a scoop of protein powder to your green drink can not only help you meet your daily protein needs but also help you stay full longer and prevent overeatingsomething helpful for weight loss and proper weight management.

This protein shake is really one powerful drink that combines all the benefits of green smoothies with protein and everyone's favorite fruit, banana.

Taste-wise, it's more like a peanut butter and banana milkshake than a grassy green juice, so you can enjoy every sip till the last drop.

The recipe calls for Skinny Shake® Belgian Chocolate protein powder, but alternatively, you can use Skinny Shake® Very Vanilla protein powder.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup almond milk 1 cup baby spinach

Papaya ginger mint smoothie

When you feel bloated, sluggish, or are low in energy, you need a fresh booster to get things in gear. This energy kicking, protein-packed smoothie recipe is just the kind of a smoothie that breezes freshness into you.

With a high fiber content, papaya has been known to promote digestive health, de-bloat and relieve constipation (2).

Greek yogurt is also no stranger to promoting good digestive health, as it packs in healthy probiotics for your system (3). To add more to the mix, ginger and mint are also effective in calming any upset stomach (4). It even has a splash of lemon juice to help flush out toxins.

Flavor-wise, these ingredients work in amazing harmony.

While ginger and mint bring freshness, papaya adds a tropical breeze that completely transforms this protein shake into a tropical heaven.

It really is a nice, refreshing, and delicious drink perfect for one of those days when you want to hit the reset button.

4. Very Berry Belgian Chocolate Protein Shake

Very berry Belgian Chocolate protein shake

I don't know about you, but I think chocolate makes everything better.

Your morning yogurt parfait tastes better with chocolate, and ice cream is definitely at its finest when chocolate is in it.

Protein shakes are no exception.

Chocolaty, decadent protein shakes are an easy win in my book.

Out of all the recipes I’ve tried, this Very Berry Belgian Chocolate Protein Shake recipe is by far my favorite.

It's tangy, yet creamy and decadent. It tastes just like chocolate truffles with exotic berry fillings —just my kind of dessert.

It's also super easy to make this shake, as it only contains five ingredients.

But don't underestimate the health benefits of this five—ingredient recipe.

It's full of antioxidants from chia, blueberries, and raspberries. Raspberries, in particular, are rich in vitamin C, K, E, and manganese.

Studies have suggested foods like raspberries help improve brain power, heart health, diabetes, and help prevent diseases like cancer (5, 6).

These good-for-you ingredients are also aided by Skinny Shake® protein powder’s super nutritious Belgian Chocolate flavor, which contains everything from maca, quinoa, pomegranate, goji berry, and acai to rose hips, cinnamon, and camu-camu.

It's really a mecca of super foods with a high-protein profile (16g per scoop).

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup plain almond or hemp milk
  • 1/2 cup raspberries
  • 1/2 cup blueberries
  • 1 scoop Skinny Shake® Belgian Chocolate protein powder
  • 2 tbsp. chia seeds
  • 2 tbsp. cacao nibs (optional)

Directions: Add all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a cup and top with cacao nibs.

5. Blueberry, Banana, and Peanut Butter Protein Shake

Blueberry, banana, peanut butter protein shake

This blueberry, banana, and peanut butter protein shake is one of my favorite post-workout meals. The dose of protein and antioxidants from the blueberries help build and repair damaged muscle tissues from an intense workout.

According to a study done in New Zealand, blueberry supplementation may reduce the damage that occurs at the molecular level and minimize soreness. In their 10 female athlete study, they discovered that blueberries accelerated muscle recovery after strenuous leg exercises (7).

This protein shake combines the nutritional power of blueberries with other post-workout foods like banana.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ripe medium frozen banana
  • 1 1/2 cups fresh spinach
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1 cup of almond milk
  • 1 scoop peanut butter powder
  • 1 scoop Skinny Shake® Very Vanilla protein powder
  • 1 tbsp. chia seeds

Directions: Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth. Once smooth, sprinkle chia seeds on top. Enjoy!
